Root Canal

Painful Tooth
Root canal therapy or endodontic treatment is the process of removing inflamed or dead pulp from the inside of the tooth, enabling a tooth that was causing pain to be retained.
After removing the pulp, the root canals are cleaned, sterilised and shaped to a form that can be completely sealed with a filling material to prevent further infection. The treatment can take several appointments, depending on how complex the tooth is, and how long the infection takes to clear.
Subsequently a crown or complex restoration to restore or protect the tooth may be a necessary recommendation, as a tooth after undergoing treatment may be more likely to fracture.
Melbourne Dental Vision provides both root canal therapy and the following restorative treatments as a matter of our routine day to day dental work. Please allow 2-3 visits for your root canal treatment. In the first appointment we concentrate on removing any dead and infected pulp then sterilising the tooth. A course of antibiotics maybe prescribed to clear up any infection. The next appointment checks that the inflammation and infection has gone and then fills the tooth and prepares it for a crown or other restoration.
